Woke up missing New York today. Not the cold weather, mind you, but the energy. #newyork #nyc
A couple of weeks before I was scheduled to give birth I cut my hair. The signature Afro puff that I rocked throughout pregnancy was gone. Suddenly, I was back to the tapered cut that I had spent the year growing out. But, I knew that motherhood would be much easier if I didn’t have to worry about detangling my hair and combing through my thick curls everyday. So, I cut it and immediately felt free. Free to just be. To focus on more important things. To not hide behind my hair. To find a level of comfort within myself that I want to model for my children so that they embody the confidence of someone who is comfortable in her or his own skin. When I reflected on this aspect of motherhood, I thought back to my time at @loomcurated where @shadeeryy exhibited such grace and beauty as she modeled during her pregnancy for a group of photographers and stylists. Head to my blog (link in profile) for some of my favorite images from this shoot. #loomcurated #tbt

For the longest time cupcakes were my dessert of choice. I blame that period of time where cupcake shops were popping up left and right. These days I prefer a good cookie. For @twolovesstudio’s #GetMinimal challenge, I decided to try a new cookie recipe courtesy of @foodnetwork. This #GetMinimal challenge is to create a food photo with absolutely no props in order to focus on the beauty of the food. These oatmeal lace cookies are perfectly thin and crisp. I decided to use my 100mm macro lens to really show off the texture of the cookie. The cookies came together so quickly that they are going to become part of my regular rotation...no need to wait for a special occasion. What’s your favorite type of cookie?
These colder temperatures have me wanting to escape to the beach for a little vacation. I’m thinking of planning a little getaway in the next month or so. Believe it or not, I’ve never stayed in an @airbnb. The process seems a bit overwhelming, so I always end up going the boutique hotel route. But, if I did stay in an Airbnb I would want it to be like this one I photographed for @forbesmasters. A minimalist vibe in a neutral color palette with interesting design elements. It just screams relaxation. Do you lean towards hotels or Airbnb’s? Care to share any tips for finding the best Airbnb? #kmpspaces
Now that I’m finally getting my appetite back and desire to eat all the foods that I used to love pre-pregnancy, I’m also looking forward to experimenting more and trying new foods. I’m determined to break this cycle of picky eating with my daughter and know that it must start with me. When I last connected with personal chef and food stylist @anu_adebara she prepared her vegan tom kha gai soup made with fresh coconut milk, mushroom stock, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, limes, and Thai chilies.
8 Days New | After waiting nine months to learn whether we were going to welcome a little girl or a little boy into our family, we finally received our sweet surprise on 1/9/19. And...it’s a boy! We are overjoyed (and let’s be honest, exhausted) to go through this newborn journey again. #babykmurraytoo
Yesterday I learned that I was named one of the top 100 female photographers to watch in 2019 by @clickinmoms! You would not believe my shock and utter happiness as I scrolled past brilliant photographers (some of my favorites and many new to me) to find my name and write-up. This recognition came at such an interesting time, as I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the direction of my photography moving forward. I tend to be a bit unfussy in my personal life, which carries over into my work. It was confirmation that my “clean and simple” style resonates with some and isn’t seen as overly simplistic. What a wonderful surprise to start off the year! Click the link in my profile to see the full list and discover some amazing talent. Thank you again, Clickin Moms!
It’s hard to believe that these are our last few days as a family of three. I pray that this little one knows that she will always be mama’s baby. #babykmurray 📷: @meccagamble
